The
Osborne Association is pleased to announce an upcoming segment
of Reading Rainbow – the award winning children’s
television program on Public Broadcasting System hosted by LeVar
Burton – devoted to a book about a child who visits her
father in prison. The program, developed by RCN Entertainment,
features the book Visiting Day by Jacqueline Woodson, and depicts
a prison visit by the Gooden Family, who participate in The Osborne
Association's FamilyWorks program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
The Gooden sons, Maleke and Malcolm, participate in Osborne's
supportive services for children in Brooklyn, NY. (Maleke accompanied
Osborne’s executive director to Sweden for the World’s
Children’s Prize ceremony last spring.)
The program
debuted in New York on PBS-Channel 13 on December
15, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. If you missed
the show, it will air again on January 17 and April
25, 2005. Local listings are available on www.readingrainbow.com.
This initiative
was made possible by the support and participation of The Osborne
Association and the Gooden Family. Thanks also to
the NYS Department of Correctional Services and Supt. Brian Fischer
for their cooperation in filming at Sing Sing Correctional
Facility.
