Facing Race, Elevating Democracy

Race Forward cordially invites you to our first ever FRED Talks (FRED = Facing Race, Elevating Democracy) on Saturday, October 21st from 12-4 PM at the Greene Space on 44 Charlton Street in New York City. This event is part of Race Forward’s Mass Freedom project.

During FRED Talks, activists working to end mass incarceration, detention, and deportation will share strategies on how we move towards a multiracial democracy in which we are all truly free.

FRED Talks will feature:

Michelle Alexander – Author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.

Four local activists and leaders:

Rosana Cruz – Vice President of Capacity and Movement Building at Race Forward.

Jorge Gonzalez – Queer Detainee Empowerment Project (QDEP); Black and Pink

Roksana Mun – Desis Rising Up and Moving (DRUM)

Sekou Odinga – Northeast Political Prisoner Coalition

FRED Talks will serve as a place to make friends, share solutions, and get inspired. Participants will have space to engage with one another, share their own stories, and highlight effective strategies for change they are using in their work.
