See Us, Support Us Events

October is See Us, Support Us month, a month-long campaign to champion the needs, experiences, and resiliency of children with incarcerated parents and encourage states, agencies, and organizations to adopt the Children of Incarcerated Parents Bill of Rights. Upcoming Event:

October 24, 9:30 a.m.  –  12:30 p.m.
Location: John Jay College, 524 W 59th Street Moot Court, 6th Floor, New York,  New York 

NYCIP partners with The Prisoner Reentry Institute at John Jay to hold a symposium highlighting diverse perspectives on visiting between children and their incarcerated parents. Topics will include removing barriers to visiting, implementing child-centered visits, how a lengthy period of parental incarceration impacts children, and more! The event features a dynamic program of speakers and clips from 2 recently released documentaries. Please RSVP here.

Location: 333 West 23rd Street, New York, New York 

The Osborne Association, the New York Initiative for Children of Incarcerated Parents (NYCIP), and HBO invite you to a special screening of the Sentence which will air on HBO later this month. Filmmaker Rudy Valdez captures his niece's milestones and daily life on film for his sister in this documentary. The film highlights the unbreakable bond between his sister Cindy and their family during her incarceration.

Join us for the SUSU kickoff event and invitation-only screening of Tres, Maison, and Dasan. The film will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker, families, advocates, and community-based providers about cutting-edge visiting practices that promote children's well-being while their parents are incarcerated.

Location: Prospect Park, The Neathemead, Brooklyn,  New York 

New York City Initiative for Children of Incarcerated parents is partnering with Nickelodeon and Big Brothers Big Sisters for Nickelodeon’s ‘Worldwide Day of Play’. A slime-filled and fitness-packed celebration, Worldwide Day of Play will celebrate the power of mentoring and emphasize the importance of health and exercise.
