Health and Wellness

The same injustices that fuel mass incarceration drive high rates of infectious disease and chronic conditions among the people Osborne serves. Addressing these challenges is a necessary part of our work. Our services draw on our participants’ resilience and capacity to heal, and place disease management, healthy living, and transmission prevention in the larger context of work, family, and stability. Currently, we focus on:

  • HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis-C,
  • Older adults (starting at age 50, to account for the “accelerated aging” that comes with life behind bars), and
  • The effects of trauma on physical health and daily functioning.

Over time, new challenges will emerge and the focus of our health services may shift. In 2020, Osborne quickly adapted to address the Covid-19 pandemic and shutdown, temporarily moving our services to remote platforms and raising funds to ensure our participants had the resources they needed to keep themselves and their families safe.
