“The Osborne parenting program has been helpful in centering my focus where it always should have been—on my children.”
- Family Ties participant
Family Ties facilitates visits for children and their mothers at Albion Correctional Facility – New York’s largest women’s prison – which is located near the Canadian border. Family Ties also offers parenting skills courses to incarcerated mothers at Albion, along with visiting support for their children and family cohesion support upon release.
Osborne provides support and case management for children ages 3 months to 21 years through this program. Simultaneously, their mothers participate in a 12-session parenting program at Albion. A special visit day is also organized and incorporated into the mothers’ graduation, where children are escorted on an airplane on a two-day trip upstate. Children are then able to spend almost six hours playing, laughing, and talking with their mothers, in addition to watching them graduate.
