Visiting in Prisons and Jails

Osborne offers services and resources to support and promote the visits that keep children, parents, and whole families connected during a loved one’s incarceration. Visits are a powerful way to keep families close while one member is in prison or jail. They reduce infractions during incarceration and reduce the likelihood of re-incarceration after release. They also benefit children, who thrive in the light of their parent’s attention and the reassurance that minimizes fears.

Osborne operates Family Centers inside the visiting rooms of several men’s prisons. In welcoming spaces stocked with toys, books, and art supplies, fathers and children can enjoy their time together. Our staff, including incarcerated men trained in child development, offer coaching as needed. At 16 prisons, Osborne operates Visitor Hospitality Centers. At these, the staff offers a warm welcome and orientation to arriving families, who have often traveled long distances. We provide information on resources available from Osborne or agencies closer to home.
