The FRLO prize was established in 2018 to recognize Osborne staff members who have been directly affected by the criminal legal system and who embody the qualities of compassion, generosity, and humor. These qualities reflect what Frederik (Erik) R-L Osborne - grandson of founder Thomas Mott Osborne - brought to our organization when he served as board president.

Long-time staff members Virginia and Ben have been with Osborne for almost 15 years. Over those years, Virginia and Ben have impacted hundreds of Osborne participants. Bringing their own experiences navigating the reentry process after their releases, past participation within Osborne’s supportive programming, and a guiding framework based on the idea that “people don’t need second chances, they need an opportunity.” Ben and Virginia exemplify Osborne’s Core Values, and they, like those awarded before them, reflect the qualities of the award’s namesake.
