Celebrating Staff for Their Years of Service
At Osborne, our work to transform lives is made possible by the dedication and commitment of our incredible staff. Many have spent years—some even decades—supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by the criminal legal system. We think this commitment to our mission, our culture and above all our participants set us apart as a truly special place. This month, we recognize colleagues who have reached milestones in their years of service and made Osborne not just a workplace, but a force for justice, healing, and opportunity. Our tribute starts with a reflection from Andrea Goupalsingh, Vice President of Court Services and Decarceration, who recently celebrated her 30-year anniversary at Osborne.

Andrea Goupalsingh
I have dedicated three decades of my career to Osborne because this work has facilitated a profound journey of purpose and growth. When I first joined as an administrative assistant, I was on a different career path—pursuing a degree in business administration and marketing, with plans to work in the insurance industry. But from the moment I arrived, Osborne’s mission to support individuals affected by the criminal legal system resonated with me in ways I hadn’t expected.
Over time, what started as a job became something more. Witnessing firsthand the impact of our work—seeing individuals rebuild their lives, reconnect with their families, and find hope in the face of adversity—shifted my perspective. I realized that I wanted to be directly involved in advocating for justice and providing meaningful support for those in need.
My decision to shift toward social work was driven by a desire to engage in meaningful work, inspired by the ways I saw Osborne’s mission in action. Over the years, I have been privileged to work alongside groups of extraordinary people —dedicated colleagues and compassionate direct reports who share my commitment to serving our clients with dignity and respect.
What has kept me here, rooted at Osborne, is knowing that every day, I am making a difference in the lives of those who face significant challenges. The landscape of criminal justice may be changing, but Osborne’s steadfast commitment to justice and opportunity for all remains as strong as ever. It’s an honor to hustle for justice in the right arena, with the right people—my colleagues and our clients—who continue to inspire and motivate me.

What’s kept me at Osborne over the years is, first and foremost, the support of my supervisor and colleagues. They’ve consistently pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone—even when I doubted myself—and that encouragement has helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I also deeply value the trust and freedom I’ve been given by the agency and my supervisor to explore new ideas and approaches. That level of trust fosters creativity and ownership, which I don’t take for granted.
And of course, our clients. We meet people at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives—often facing arrest or a conviction that could impact their future in profound ways. The fact that so many of them are willing to trust us, to be vulnerable, and to work with us during such a difficult time means the world to me. It validates my belief in the possibility of change, the goodness in people, and the deep human desire to be heard and supported.

My passion for families is deeply personal—I was raised in a supportive home and know firsthand how strong family connections can transform lives. That understanding has shaped my work at Osborne, where I’ve had the privilege of building meaningful support systems for families in Buffalo. From setting up the office to working directly with the community, I’ve seen how listening, presence, and genuine care can create lasting change. Helping families strengthen their bonds and access the resources they need has been incredibly fulfilling, reinforcing my commitment to this work.
Being part of Osborne has provided an opportunity to channel this passion into a larger mission. The organization prioritizes the voices of those affected by the criminal legal system, recognizing that true expertise comes from listening and responding. Osborne’s commitment to open dialogue—whether in advocacy spaces, team discussions, or direct engagement with the community—ensures that the work we do is shaped by those we serve. This culture of responsiveness makes the work deeply meaningful and continues to inspire me every day.
What keeps me at Osborne is its commitment to bringing people together. Beyond its mission, Osborne integrates values of racial equity, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and social justice into its policies and leadership. Being part of an organization that upholds these values and turns them into action makes my role here fulfilling.
Thank you for your dedication and years of service at Osborne!
