Issue/Problem

Schools, child welfare agencies, and other institutions that serve children are perfectly positioned to address the needs of children with incarcerated parents. However, these institutions generally do not have the training, policies, or data practices in place to do so. Opportunities to reduce stigma, address isolation, intervene in crises, and protect the parent-child bond are lost.

What we’re doing

Osborne provides training and technical assistance to leaders and staff of child welfare agencies, schools, mental health practitioners, and Family Courts, increasing their competency to serve children of incarcerated parents and changing the culture of their institutions from the inside. We work in partnership with directly affected children, parents, and caregivers to challenge invisibility, misconceptions, and stigma, and advocate for resources to meet their needs.
