FamilyWorks in the Community

From each of our community sites, Osborne offers services for the whole family, particularly the children of incarcerated parents, the family members caring for these children, and the mothers and fathers coming home from prison or jail. Programs differ by location, although every site hosts Osborne’s Video Visiting program, which offers free virtual visits between children, families, and the people they love in several prisons – including all the women’s prisons – across New York State and the women’s jail on Rikers Island. Depending on whether they are served by FamilyWorks Brooklyn, FamilyWorks Harlem, FamilyWorks Buffalo, or FamilyWorks Newburgh, families will also find some or all of the following resources:

  • afterschool and summer camp programs for children of incarcerated parents;
  • civic engagement, mentoring, and advocacy training for older teens;
  • recreational outings for children and their caregivers;
  • support groups for parents and caregivers;
  • therapeutic workshops; and
  • trauma screening and referrals.
