April Highlights

Highlights of our staff and program accomplishments throughout April.

Osborne

May 1, 2026

  • Osborne has released Engaging and Empowering Youth Voices, a first-of-its-kind guide to encourage youth leadership but also address a persistent practice across advocacy, media, and nonprofit sectors: the extractive use of young people’s personal stories—particularly those impacted by the incarceration of a parent. Co-authors Allison Hollihan, director of our national See Us, Support Us initiative and our New York Initiative for the Children of Incarcerated Parents, and Chantel Jackson, former See Us, Support Us fellow, interviewed young people to develop this valuable guide. They presented it this month at the National Children of Incarcerated Parents Conference at Arizona State University.

  • On April 6, Osborne began providing trauma-informed therapeutic and mindfulness services to people detained or incarcerated at Rikers through the new program Building Resilience and Validating Experiences (BRAVE). Every week, our staff are onsite offering workshops and connecting people to cognitive behavioral therapy and other counseling based on personal needs and goals. The program also provides reentry services and partners with other organizations for links to educational and vocational training and certification programs.

  • LoHud recently published an op-ed from Angeeluz Cortorreal, who coordinates our Court Advocacy Services in Westchester, that makes the case for alternatives to incarceration, highlighting the story of a father of three who avoided unnecessary incarceration with Osborne’s support. Last Sunday, Osborne’s Tiffany Myrick and Michelle Howard shared news and information about our free transportation program with DOCCS to New York State prisons on LITE FM’s Get Connected.
