Young Adult Services

Every day, young people at Osborne show us their creativity, resilience, and energy as they become the adults they aspire to be. Nearly all of the young adults we serve are Black or Latinx and most are male - statistically at the highest risk of experiencing police violence. A single arrest can disrupt schooling, employment, and housing. Conviction and incarceration bring lifelong repercussions, affecting employment and earning prospects and imposing barriers to financial aid, college admissions, military service, elected office, public housing, government benefits, and the vote.

To address these challenges, Osborne employs adult mentors (the majority of whom are themselves previously justice-involved), who facilitate life-changing curricula, trauma screening, academic support, employment training, paid internships, and opportunities for civic engagement and leadership. Perhaps most important, we create spaces where young people, including gang-affiliated, gender-expansive, and LGBTQ+ youth, can come together safely and know they will be treated with respect.
