CYFS Picnic Celebrates Community and Honors Elaine Connelly

The annual Children, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) picnic brought together families for a joyful day in Prospect Park. The celebration was filled with games, music, and connection, and held special meaning as we honored the memory of longtime volunteer Elaine M. Connelly, who passed away last November, with a dedicated bench.

“Jails 2 Jobs gave me the opportunity to have financial maintenance, get a job, and broaden my horizons. I gained hope and opportunity. When you come home, not having these things can stagnate you.”

After 24 years in prison, reentering society felt overwhelming, but Osborne gave me the support and guidance I needed to rebuild my life. From securing housing and benefits to learning new skills, Osborne not only helped me find stability but also inspired me to give back and support others on their journey home.

The time and effort staff put in during the program is the most valuable thing about NeON. [Staff memebers] Piero and Aneta mean the world to me. They went out of their way to help me get something that I thought was impossible. They actually care. NeON helped me get my OSHA flagger certificiation, and I ended up interviewing, meeting different people, gaining work experience, and getting a better job. Today, I’m successful and able to take care of my family.
